MEMORIAL DAY

Memorial Day. A day of remembrance of the fallen soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. As a vet, I especially feel some kinda way about this. I made it. I survived. I had it easy. Before I served in the U.S Navy, I reflected on previous war vets from the Vietnam era, the Korean War, and WWII. We all had family and friends of family that served in those wars. But now it’s hard not to focus on the Middle East wars and skirmishes. Soldiers, sailors and marines who didn’t come home from that 6-8 month deployment. Guys my age and younger.

For those of us with children now serving in the armed forces. Memorial Day starts to hit close to frigging home. And it’s not a good feeling when they deploy in harm’s way. You think back to all the stupid shit you did on active duty and pray they don’t make the same mistakes you did.

That they come home after deployment.

The rest of you…..just remember what the implications of this day means while you’re enjoying that Home Depot blowout sale and firing up the grill. And for God’s sake stop telling living veterans “thank you” on this day. It ain’t about us.

THAT’S VETERAN’S DAY.
