Got Snacks?

Here we go. “Murica’s” new drug of choice…..food. The percentage of overweight/obese Americans is staggering. A nation of people hooked on food, like heroin junkies.

Does anyone eat for sustenance anymore? I mean c’mon, isn’t food meant to be eaten to survive? I guess if it ain’t smothered, covered, chopped, scattered, topped and peppered it ain’t right. Ever see a toddler refuse oatmeal because there isn’t enough sugar and butter in it? We are setting our children up for failure. Would you stick a crack pipe in a baby’s mouth? Meth addict, sugar addict….both make your teeth fall out. I’m just saying.

And before you go “no Dennis it’s not the same”, STFU and listen…stop setting your kids up for diabetes and other food borne ailments. Think about this: Some of you might be lactose intolerant. That means that your ADULT body has decided its had enough of a substance meant to nourish babies. Do you think there are any lactose intolerant people in Somalia or any Russians with peanut allergens?

Can someone explain to me why the Food and Drug Administration hasn’t stepped in to curb this food nonsense. Oh that’s right…money. Money and Monsanto. Google GMO foods and Monsanto. (just click the link)  That guy is Satan hellbent on killing you and your kids and “UOENO” that it’s happening right under your nose.

Marketing and media food gurus entice you with their captivating commercials, playing on your greediness and need for all things bigger. “yeah that burger I made you last time, it’s nothing… nothing…nothing…..compared to this burger. This burger right here, we call it “the whole cow”. You won’t have to eat for weeks.

Bigger, richer, fluffier, greasier, more decadent, more seasoned….mmmm taste all this flavor. And you have the nerve to wonder why you need liposuction. You can’t have it both ways. You can’t be a glut AND be physically fit.

Yet I’m the freak because in my late 40’s, I workout like it’s my religion and eat healthy. And then there’s always the plethora of questions: How do you workout? What do you eat? What supplements do you take? Are you on steroids? Most people regard my answers as if I suggested they cut off a big toe. The fact is, every single day I wake up, I think to myself I can do better. I must do better. I will do better. I’m sorry that I have the willpower to avoid Dairy Queen’s XXL Blizzard shakes and those insidious Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

My competitive streak fuels me when my energy runs low and my alpha mindset kicks in. Shout out to Police Lieutenant Larry Kitchens, who try as he might, simply cannot keep up. Larry, if you’re reading this then you know I WON.  Admit defeat gracefully, and I promise to catch you up to speed. Or accept my official challenge: downstairs. police gym. date and time of your choosing. and we’ll invite the entire building.

Sorry, I’ve gotten off track.

I think I may have a solution. Put an end to serviced foods and grocery stores and bring back butchers and farmers markets. convenience kills. Show of hands, who grew up hunting and fishing? Did you teach your kids? Even I am remiss in that one. It’s time to get back to the basics in life.

Simplify your nutrition. Man….venison steaks sound good right about now.

  1. What’s Up D? Nice on, but think about this. At this stage of society and the way most people are, how many could do that? If that were to happen, it would probably hasten on the rise of Mad Max Thunderdome era. Do you think that most people would start hunting there on food or just start hunting easier targets to take their food?

  2. We’ve always been hooked on food nothings changed since we, were kids. Take the average black family, you remember Sundays don’t you? That was the one day we’d all be at grandma’s,or maybe it was your house. Either way, food has always been a part of us and brought us together. It’s not so much the food, but the lack of activity, the average kid doesn’t go out side “it’s to hot.” We never thought about the heat, but we didn’t have playstation, xbox and all sorts of gadgets.

This is as much if not more of the problem, than food is. Yes we eat for substance, but we have choice, more choice than ever. It’s always been smothered, covered, chopped, scattered, topped and peppered. Again, nothings changed remember Sundays,or the holidays?

Well somethings has changed, there’s more awareness due to mass media and a healthy market for health food junkies. Yes, the same market that drives the food sales and maybe the consumption also drives the sales of health food and the, I’m better than you attitude of those health, food junkies. More fast food has given people more choice.

There was no limit to the amount of junk food we’d eat, But again activity was the key for us. We couldn’t run in and out, come in get some water get you tail back outside. Even at that, we had the fat friend it happens, our genes aren’t the same.

A “toddler”,come on Dennis, bad example!

Ever seen a toddler notice if there isn’t butter or suger? No,but I bet you’ve seen a toddler push that bowl away because he/she didn’t like it. Was it the taste or the texture? Chances are it’s the taste, but the toddler doesn’t know why. All they know is that, it’s nasty. Do you like your food bland?

The failure comes from letting your kids have 16 hours of TV,games and all the gadgets that allows them to sit.Hell the average kid doesn’t talk on the phone, they text. (that’s another topic)

The Somalia and Russian premis is also a, bad example. Are you suggesting they don’t do dairy products. Is this a fact, they’re not lactose intolerant?

Can you explain why, you’d want the FDA to determine what and how,we eat? You’ve worked for the government, how much do they get right? The right of choice is a basic right, they shouldn’t have to hold our hand,it’s not their job. We can’t afford to give up our basic rights they’ve taken, enough already. (That’s another topic)

Let them eat like you and I did,but watch how much they eat, nothing wrong with healthy snacks. You can “have it both ways”,you can it what you want and look good. It’s what you do after you eat, what times of day/night you eat. Your metabolism and exercise play a big part,Also your age,and basic body build.

Your advocating your life style, your method, as the only way to look good that’s simply, not true. There’s various forms of looking good, just as there’s various reason a person doesn’t look good or feel good, about themselves. Food is often the least of, their problems.

Another thing that has changed is your view on life, and how you govern yours. That’s a good thing, that may not work for others.

    Reality check!!

  3. Ahhh, I do love a good debate and difference of opinion, don’t you Nate (or is it Al posing as Nate? hahahahaha, cover your tracks better)

You spoke on “grandma’s house” and back in the day, and you even provided the answer. Sundays. No one feasted ALL week long like that. c’mon…and there is no bigger advocate of a child’s exercise than me, but that’s a whole other topic. As for the toddler example, my idea of blunt force trauma. A stark eye opening example. yes, a young child will do that very thing. blindfold a kid and it’ll be apple pie over rutabagas all day every day. But as a parent, don’t we have an obligation to feed our kids proper nutrients? And please…don’t cite my examples as “bad” when you KNOW you haven’t done enough follow up and research.

You have valid points with exercise or lack thereof, and too much tv and games. But all the exercise in the world isn’t going to combat food allergens(some of which are genetic). A gluttonous lifestyle, simply put, is going to wreck you. The FDA needs something in place for the weak willed…you know what? Go to the beach this Saturday and look around. It’s in your face, disgustingly…

By the way, for the record…I don’t advocate anything. My fitness lifestyle is mine. It affects everything I do from my physical well being to the mental aspect of it. It releases the stresses of the day and adds a year or two onto my life. This article is written to be “cold water to the face”. To encourage people to do better. Part 2 of exercise IS nutrition. They go hand in hand.

I suppose (as you say) they’re are other methods to looking and feeling good, that’s fine. drugs, therapy, retail? I guess you could buy some clothes, cologne and put some money in your pocket. But what happens when you’re naked, broke and don’t smell worth a damn, with low self esteem and a closed pharmacy? oh that’s right…..reality check.
